If it were not for Miranda, this wedding would have never happened.
...sure, I helped too by asking her to marry me, but we never planned
on getting our wedding for FREE! Yep, that's right....Free. When I
proposed to Miranda, we thought we should have a wedding around the 1st
of May. Only 5 months away, it was still kind of a short notice.
In late January, Miranda heard a contest on a local radio station, 101.5 FM...
"101-5 the Point and the Bay Area Renaissance Festival are teaming up to give away a Fantasy Wedding! Simply tell us in 50 words or less why you should win this wedding!"
So she entered.....and WON!!
Miranda, being the writer that she is, wrote in to the station and told
them the story behind my proposal and of our life together.
...they apparently liked it!
The radio station provided us with a wedding at the Bay Area Renaissance Festival, reception for up to 50 guests, bridal gown, tuxedo rental, bouquet and boutonniere, wedding rings, wedding cake, and a honeymoon package at a beach-side resort!
Basically, we had EVERYTHING....for FREE!!!
....there was a catch to it though.......we had to get married in just 2 weeks. I never really noticed just how short two weeks could be until now.
First thing Miranda had to do was go pick out her dress, next came the
list of guests. This was a really hard task for us to do.....we could
only invite 50 people for the reception and Miranda could easily fill
that up with just family members! ::laughs::
The problem I had was that my parents didn't live here. My father &
step-mother are up in the D.C. area and my mother lives back home in
Germany. Needless to say, they were not able to make it down for the
wedding. Luckily, my brother lives here in Florida and was able to
attend. His job has him traveling a lot, so having him here during the
wedding was a nice twist.
We spent a few days working on the list and then sent out our invitations.....via e-mail. No time for formality here! ::laughs::
Since it was to be an outdoor wedding, we didn't want people to be
uncomfortable, so we told them not to dress up....dress however they
want to....well, however they want to for a public area where kids will
be present. ;o)
Miranda and I went to the jewelry store and picked out our rings from
their selection. Since we are not fans of "gold" jewelry, we chose a
flat band of white-gold with a matte/satin finish. After ordering the
rings, we picked out a cake and I went to go pick out my tux and
flowers.
Since we aren't very traditional people, I went for a tux that was more
modern and fashionable. We also didn't want a regular bouquet either.
If you check out our Gallery, you'll see what I mean.
The day of our wedding was ab-so-freakin-lutely wonderful!!! The
weather.....perfect. It was an overcast day, so hardly any direct
sunlight burned through.....the temperature was in the low 70's....and
the wind was a gentle breeze. Quite an unnaturally UN-Florida day!
It was perfect! |
